This Is The Way
Order and vision are important not only for our things and our spaces,
but also for the intangible aspects of life.
How do you make decisions, manage difficulty, and find meaning in despair?
Do you have a Mission, a Manifesto, a Rule, or a Code that you regularly come back to and remind yourself of?
Do you have a tribe, a sisterhood, a squad, or a band of brothers, who walk with you in your Way?
In the series, The Mandalorian, the main character consults others in his order when facing a dilemma.
As they discuss how he should act, there is a point where one of them will say,
“This is The Way.”
In response, the whole group echoes back,
“This is The Way.”
The Way being the code of this group of warriors. Like a medieval knight sworn to chivalry, a Mandalorian is known for living by a set of rules. Just as chivalry and its ideals were widely understood even by those who did not follow it, so too, The Way of the Mandalor is familiar to broader society.
However, when he wants to figure out how The Way looks in his own life and circumstances, the Mandalorian goes to others who have likewise pledged to follow it. His culture differs from the Way of the Mandalor, just as people of medieval Europe differed from knights. He seeks counsel from those who are following the same values.
When opportunities arise or obstacles appear, who do you turn to for advice?
When confronted with a special situation, how do you remember your values?
The first step in bringing order to your home and your life is to cast a vision and decide where you are headed and why.
This is the foundation I guide my clients through, and though we focus on their spaces and things to begin with, this vision eventually extends to every area of life.
Tell me:
Have you ever deliberately decided & declared:
The way you want to live,
The values and priorities that will guide you, &
The relationships you are committed to & are being shaped by?
If you have, who or what reminds you of your chosen Way?
If you haven’t, who or what guides your days?
