Ride the Rockies
Bikers on mountain roads always look pitiful to me, pedaling round and round yet only gaining inches of ground.
Much effort.
Little progress.
Such a long way to go.
Not something I feel drawn to or inspired by. It looks like a sad, lonely, miserable activity to me. I always think, and often say, “Ugh. I would never want to do that!”
Ride the Rockies participants
Recently, however, we saw not one, but hundreds of cyclists climbing the Million Dollar Highway in the final day of Ride the Rockies, an annual charity ride.
[An event that covers 418 miles over 6 days, with 28,484 cumulative feet of elevation gain.]
Gathered in clusters, bikers in bright clothing conquered the mountain with smiles on their faces. It looked like fun! Chatting with them at the overlooks and hearing their stories I thought, “Wow, I wish I could do that! How awesome would that be?”
Exercising strength.
Experiencing beauty.
Enjoying camaraderie and encouragement.
Reaching heights, both physical and mental.
Blessing others.
Triumphing in difficulty.
Having companions on a hard journey makes a huge difference.
What looks daunting, overwhelming, and unthinkable shifts to challenging yet feasible.
Even more astonishing, it includes elements of fun.
Some people, obviously, like biking up a mountainside by themselves.
I am not one of those people.
The only way I would even consider attempting anything close to such a ride is in a group, with plenty of support and encouragement.
Just because others are able and happy to complete a journey or task on their own doesn’t mean you should be able to do the same.
We all have aspects of life in which
we cannot succeed on our own.
Some journeys require many fellow travelers, support crews, and encouragers along the way to make that shift.
Other journeys change with the presence of just one other.
Tell me:
Is there a daunting task or journey in front of you?
If you’ve attempted to go it alone and failed, are you willing to try again with the support of at least one other companion?
Have you seen the difference a companion can make?
If decluttering and organizing is a challenge for you, you will be amazed at the difference working with me can make.
I’ve seen it time after time in my work with clients.
I’d love to help you shift from “Ugh” to “Wow” in your journey!
